Stocking How-to

1. Lay 2 pieces of fabric wrong side out (I used red for the lining of the stocking and spongebob for the outside of the stocking) and draw your stocking shape. Cut around leaving a seam allowance. Make sure both the lining and outside fabric are the same size.

 2. Lay a piece on quilting batting and cut out 2 pieces

3.  Layer the fabric with the outside (spongebob) fabric, quilting batting, and lining (red) facing the right sides out

4. Sew in a meandering stitch on your machine to create a quilted look (will send video separately)

5. Cut out fabric for the cuff by lining the 2 pieces against it to see how long it needs to be (or I suppose you could measure also; I always wing it and hardly ever use a measuring tape).

6. trim it and lay it out flat

7. fold in half, wrong sides out, to sew the seam

 8. Sew the seam

9. Fold in half "longways", with wrong sides in, to create the cuff

10. Cut a smaller piece to use for the loop. You can also use ribbon or ric rac- get creative! If using material, sew it wrong sides out longways and turn right sides out

11. Sew the 2 pieces of the stocking together, lining (red) sides out and outside (spongebob) sides in. Leave the top open.

12. Trim the extra around the stocking and Turn it so the outside (spongebob)  is out

13. fold the loop piece in half and line against the cuff's seam leaving the raw edges together and the folded ends together

14. Stuff cuff inside the stocking so that all open/unfinished edges meet the unfinished edge of the stocking. (the fold in the cuff will be inside the stocking, the raw edge near the top)

 15. Sew along the top. Be sure to use a backstitch on both beginning and end

16. Pull cuff out

17. And Fold over. You know have a completed stocking!!!

cakes i've made

I have a lot of time on my hands- and sometimes not enough to complete what I set myself up to do. Here are the few cakes I've made in the past 2 years.

Valentine's "cards" from our house

Each year, I try to outdo myself on the Valentine's Rylie takes to school for her classmates. Here are this years:

I am in love with these. And they are very simple to create. All you  need is:    

 plastic easter eggs, construction paper, a pen, hot glue gun, and scissors (not shown). My daughter then made paper hearts, cut them out, and wrote "have an 'egg'citing valentine's day" on each.  We then hot glued each one to an egg so it could still open (like this:)

                                                                                 
All we have to do is add the "flubber" (or slime) we made for her science project inside each and she will have "egg"cellent Valentine's for everyone

Easy Valentine's day shirt

So my daughter wears uniforms to school and has a free dress day tomorrow in honor of Valentine's day (although Valentine's day is a mere one day later...) and I didn't want to waste money on a t-shirt just for the occasion. So, I got creative and stole a shirt out of her closet (and some of her red fabric as I did not have any). I hope she doesn't mind....

Anyway, here are the materials:       

  i used a bit of red fabric, scissors, a fabric pen, tacky glue (ok to wash it would be ideal and best), and her old t-shirt.
Turn the shirt inside out and draw a heart on it. I then drew lines in the heart and made my cuts. Layer the fabric on the heart and glue. The glue will leave an easy "line" to follow to trim the red fabric.

 Turn the shirt over and voila!- you have a heart shirt.

And there you have it. A super easy, quick, and extremely cute Valentine's shirt!!

here's another stab at this blogging thing

downloaded an app so i can upload from my phone. i am testing it now to see if it works.

and it does not. sucky.

testing the site out

i have decided i want to start blogging about the crafts i do. that way, if people want to attempt to recreate (and most likely outshine my feeble attempts) they will have the directions and step- by-steps to do so. so here is a test blog because i have no idea what i'm doing.

This is the first cake I ever attempted using Fondant. homeade fondant. what all the recipes do not inform you is how sticky and annoyingly uncooperative fondant can be. but it turned out all right in the end and was gobbled up by a bunch of drunk people at the party. yay.

and now that i know how to add pictures and text- i will start the tedious journey through my pictures to upload current and past Pinterest and other projects.
